Carnival Lights

It was a beautiful day, and it was a long time coming. It seemed ages ago that Jace had asked Anna if he could take her to the theme park, and it was finally that day. There was even a big festival going on that day at the park, a beginning of Autumn festival, the start of the theme parks Halloween season. It was going to be so much fun. He could hardly wait, not only was he going to be there with Anna, but Halloween was his favorite holiday. Pulling on a blue tshirt, some jeans, comfortable tennis shoes and his favorite leather jacket he was ready to go. There was a lacrosse game today, so people were running around getting ready to go to it, but he was going to miss this one. Ayo and Matt would forgive him. 

He headed up the stairs to wait for Anna, and when she arrived he could do nothing but smile, " I owe you cotton candy Anna, shall we?" He lead the way to the gates and the car that was waiting to take them to Carlyto Land. " I found out that their Halloween celebrations start today, so that should be a lot of fun, and plenty of sweets for you if you want them." he was planning on trying to get her mind off of everything she had endured before coming here. He knew she had a rough time, back in New Orleans, and he just wanted, just for that one day, to let her be a regular teenager. To go to a theme park, to ride rides, to eat terrible food, and just to have a good time. 

As they pulled up to the park he grinned seeing the massive roller coasters, the ferris wheel, you could smell the fried food on the air, hear the joyous laughter of the people walking around. There was Halloween decor everywhere and it looked amazing. Climbing out of the car he held his hand out to her, " Ready to be a regular teen for a day Miss Russo?"

A while back Jace Hale had asked her if she'd like to go to Carlyto Land with him, and today was finally that day. Anna was excited, she'd never been to a theme park before, and Jace was hardly the worst company to walk her through it. He'd mentioned there was some sort of Halloween celebration starting this weekend, which only added to her anticipation, as Halloween was her favorite holiday. Despite all the cliches and mis-truths that were spread around about it and those it entailed. Even though she was a witch and All Hallows Eve was one of their biggest solstices (basically like their Christmas), she loved the novelty of it. The modern westernized traditions, the costumes, the candy, all of it. But her favorite thing, like just about everyone else, was dressing up.

Who didn't want to be someone other than themselves for a day?

Anna glanced at herself one last time in the mirror that hung in their dorm room. She'd never been to one of these places, so she wasn't sure what one usually wore, so she simply opted for comfort over fashion, like she always did. A pair of jeggings, her well-worn Converse, a dark colored cotton t-shirt, and a red hooded jacket with a small Arion crest embroidered on the left side. She zipped the garment, then swept her thick dark hair on top of her head and fastened it into a ponytail. It still fell well past her shoulders, her mother would be scolding her for a haircut if she were back home.

But she wasn't.

Anna didn't care much for purses, but she did carry a small backpack for essentials, which she slung her arms through just before exiting the dorm. Jace was waiting patiently for her even though she was certain she was running late, as usual, but she grinned upon greeting regardless. He escorted her to the car and in no time they'd arrived at infamous Carlyto Land. It looked glorious, at least to her new eyes. She'd been on one ferris wheel ever, when she was seven and attended a county fair with a friend from school, but it was nothing compared to this...

"Ready to be a regular teen for a day Miss Russo?"

"I was born ready," she grinned, the gesture shadowed with a air of deviousness. She'd never been allowed at a theme park before, so in a way, she felt satisfaction that her Grams couldn't stop her now. Anna took up Jace's hand in hers and half pulled him towards the entrance like a child who couldn't wait to get into the toy store.

"Where do we start?"

He hadn't been able to help it. While they were driving to the park, he had kept sneaking looks at her. Anna looked so excited, which was what he was hoping for. He wanted her to have fun, and it looked like that was just what was going to happen. As they arrived and she got her first look, he too was full of excitement. It was going to be a great day, away from all the troubles at Haven, where they could just be a couple teenagers having a good day. As she lead the way, he squeezed her hand, yeah this was going to be an incredible day. Lacing his fingers with hers he looked around, " well it looks like there is a ton we could do. I think we should hit up the roller coaster or something before we eat, just to be sure we don't get sick." he shrugged, he had no problem with motion sickness, but if they were to eat a bunch of fried stuff and then ride a crazy ride it might lead to a mess. 

Grinning at her he lead her through the crowds, heading towards the massive roller coaster ahead. It looked like it was going to be super fast and insane. Just what he was looking forward to. Leading her to the line he spotted a cotton candy vendor near by and headed over to them first. " Can we get a bag please?" he paid for it and held it out to Anna, " I had a promise to keep." he smiled at her, his sapphire blue eyes lighting up. He had promised her he would get her cotton candy, and there it was. Leading her to the roller coaster he lead her through the line, luckily it wasn't too bad of one since it was still pretty early. When they reached the front he looked around, and then headed for the line for the front car. It was always so much more fun to see the edge as you were about to go over it. 

" Not scared of this are you?" he looked at the dark haired beauty beside him, his eyes still so full of light and excitement. It was great to be away from Haven, away from all that drama. Draping an arm around her shoulders as they stood in line he gave her a little squeeze of encouragement. " I can't lie, today has been something I've been looking forward to since you agreed to come with me." he grinned down at her and stepped forward, they were going to be the next group. " Thanks again, for doing that." he lead her forward and into the car when it was there turn. 

Sitting down he clicked the buckle closed as the lap bar came down. Looking at her he gripped the lap bar nervously. He loved rides like this, but it was still a little terrifying too, the adreneline rushed through him as they started up the huge hill. " Here we go..." they reached the top and he could see over the edge, before they heard a click and were released down the hill at high speed, the grin never leaving his face.

Anna had never been to an amusement park, but so far it was proving to be a good way to spend the afternoon. Her company wasn't terrible either. Jace was sweet, kind hearted, he was the epitome of goodness. An impossible standard to match up to, but it didn't mean she didn't want him around. He made her want to be a better version of herself, a version of her that strived to do what was right above all else. On one hand, it did put a bit of anxiety on her, sometimes it came easily but others, it felt like she were playing a part.

As promised, Jace acquired some cotton candy, which was just as delicious as the candy back home. She munched on the pink fluff and followed Jace to a ride he seemed pretty excited about. He thanked her for coming with him and she looked at him sideways.

"Of course, Jace. How could I turn down such an offer? Fun filled afternoon with good company, sounds awesome to me," she giggled. The pair settled into the rollercoaster cart and the ride sprang to life. Anna learned pretty quickly that she was not a fan of rollercoasters, the ups and downs made her dizzy and nauseous in the worst way. The witch clung to the hunter and closed her eyes, willing the ride to be over soon.

"Okay, I'll try anything twice, but please do not make me do that again," she said once they exited the cart and let out a half laugh as she bent over to get her bearings. "Is there anything here that isn't going to make me feel sick afterwards?" she grinned.
